The MF Lightning is an everyday high-performance shortboard built on Mick Fanning's CT-winning DNA outline, retuned for more spark in average surf. When compared to the MF DNA, Darren increased the nose and reduced the tail rocker. The board has the traditional single-to-double concave but he flattered the single concave under the front foot and deepened the double concave between the fins, these changes keeps the board fast and free through weaker sections, while enough performance stays on tap for steeper, better waves. Designed for beach and point breaks from roughly 2 to 6 feet, it suits intermediate to advanced surfers wanting one board for most conditions.

Fast underfoot without feeling nervous, the kind of board that finds speed on its own and lets you spend it however you like. Lean on a rail and it holds, then releases clean when you ask it to. Familiar and easy, not a board that demands you surf perfectly to get something back.

When it's pumping

Plenty of drive off the bottom and enough hold to push hard through a good wall.
In steeper, punchier surf it stays controlled, though the MF DNA will out-perform it when the waves have real size and grunt.

When it's fair

Despite the increased nose rocker, Mick felt the board has "speed to burn" and holds its momentum through turns exceptionally well.
