Under Your Feet
When it's pumping
- Knee to shoulder is the comfort zone. In steeper, punchier surf the straight outline and low rocker want a wider arc than a shortboard would draw.
- Rail to rail is smooth, so you can still draw proper turns, they're just longer and more drawn out.
- Pushing into overhead is possible with thruster fins for a bit more pivot, but at that point you're asking a mid-length to do a shortboard's job.
When it's fair
- This is home. You get in early, glide through the soft sections, and keep speed where shorter boards stall out.
- Run it as a quad or twin with a trailer and it stays quick and a little loose, so you can still throw in a cutback.
