Speed Demon

Speed Demon

LOST
Owners Rating:
The Speed Demon is a small-wave, speed-specific shortboard developed with Dino and Kolohe Andino, sitting between the Ripper, Rad Ripper and Sub-Driver 2.0. A deep double concave that hooks into the rails, low tail rocker and a wide tail block generate huge lateral speed on sloping, gutless faces, while normal rails and a conventional outline keep it feeling familiar underfoot. Extra width and thickness make it easy to stand on and go, and it runs through the standard 5'4" to 6'6" scale. Built for weak beach breaks and points from about 1–6ft, and rideable by most surfers who want speed without a wild-looking alt shape.

Under Your Feet

Stand on it and it goes, the low rocker and deep double concave do the work before you've thought about pumping. It feels less like a board you surf and more like one you point. The wide tail means it wants to run in a straight-ish line, so the fun is in how fast you're travelling, not how tight you're turning.

When it's pumping

  • It'll happily do overhead, it just wasn't the point, the wide tail wants to run rather than sit down in a hard turn.
  • When there's already speed on offer, the whole reason this board exists gets a bit redundant.

When it's fair

  • This is the whole thesis. Waist-high and gutless, it finds speed that isn't really there.
  • The deep double concave and flat tail rocker mean one pump and you're gone, which makes slop feel almost worth paddling out for.
